Afghan security forces in continuation of crackdown against militants have killed 15 insurgents during series of operations elsewhere in the militancy-ridden country and captured five insurgents including a shadowy district governor over the past 24 hours, security apparatus said Saturday.
Units of police backed by the army have killed 15 Taliban militants during series of operations which have been conducted in Nangarhar, Baghlan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Oruzgan, Herat and Helmand provinces over the past 24 hours, Interior Ministry said in a statement released here.
Four more militants have been captured during the crackdown, the statement asserted.
However, the statement, didn't say if there were casualties on security personnel.
Meantime, Taliban militants in online statements have claimed killing over a dozen security personnel since Friday in the war-torn country.
Moreover, Afghanistan's National Directorate for Security (NDS) or the country's spy agency in a statement on Saturday reported capturing a Taliban shadowy district governor in the eastern Nangarhar province with Jalalabad as its capital 120 km east of the national capital Kabul city.
According to the statement of NDS, the arrested shadowy district governor is Ajmal who has been appointed by Taliban outfit as the governor for Koz Kunar district.
Ajmal who used to stay in Peshawar of Pakistan, according to the statement, had been involved in subversive activities.
Taliban militants have yet to make comment on the subject. Enditem
