"Xinhua Silk Road" information platform to boost synergy between China, EU development plans

Xinhua, November 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

The "Xinhua Silk Road" information platform, an international economic information hub, will boost the synergy between China's "Belt and Road" initiative and the investment plan in the European Union (EU) -- the Juncker Plan in Europe, a European Parliament official said Thursday.

Jo Leinen, chair of the Delegation for Relations with China in the European Parliament, made the remarks in the parliament in Brussels at the launching ceremony for the platform.

He stressed that the new product provided by China's State-run news agency Xinhua will help to build a more closer cooperation between China and the EU.

"We are looking forward to the investment agreement between China and the EU so that EU companies could have easier access to invest in China. Chinese companies are very welcome to invest in Europe," Leinen said.

Noting that the platform provides service "where we have a common interest and where information is needed," Leinen said the platform brings China and Europe "much closer together."

Minister of the Chinese Mission to the EU Zhang Lirong congratulated Xinhua on the 84th anniversary of its establishment and the launch of "Xinhua Silk Road" information products.

He told officials from the European Commission, the European Parliament and many other EU diplomats that Xinhua, with a history of over eight decades, has played an integral part in bringing Europe and China to each other, thus promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and European peoples.

"By centralizing and providing information on the project as well as offering customized services, this online platform will play a key role in developing synergies between the 'Belt and Road' initiative and the Juncker investment plan as well as the building of the China-EU connectivity platform," Zhang said.

The Xinhua Silk Road information platform, established by Xinhua's China Economic Information Service, links people, enterprises and institutions in the countries and areas involved in the "Belt and Road" initiative, and champions information sharing and business cooperation. Endi
