Zhang Yuning scores twice as Chinese beat Morocco 4-0 in U-23 soccer tournament

Xinhua, November 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

European-based striker Zhang Yuning scored two goals as China's U-23 national team crushed their Moroccan counterparts 4-0 in a four-nation international soccer tournament here on Friday.

China, who lost 1-0 to Colombia in their first match of the round-robin tournament, went into the game in high spirits creating several chances in the opening stage.

The home team showed their efficiency on set pieces in the first half as their first two goals came from corners. Midfielder Xu Xin, who plays for Atletico Madrid youth team, fired the ball home from close range after Jin Boyang's spectacular header was parried away by Morocco's goalkeeper in the 33rd minute.

Then it came to the show time of Zhang. The 18-year-old striker, who joined Dutch club Vitesse in July, found the back of the net twice - in the 48th and 72th minute.

Li Yuanyi sealed the victory for China when he slotted home in the penalty box in the injury time.

Morocco could have pulled one back but Hamza Khaba's spot kick went wide of the goal.

In the last round of play scheduled for Sunday, China will face South Korea, who tied with Columbia 2-2 in the other match Friday. Endi
