The death toll of the twin suicide bombings that rocked Beirut southern suburbs region of Burj el-Barajneh Thursday has risen to at least 35, with more than 180 injured, according to the Lebanese Red Cross.

The two explosions rocked late Thursday afternoon the Burj el-Barajneh area in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Sources said "A suicide bomber exploded himself near a small snack on the main street of Burj el-Barajneh and after seven minutes another bomber exploded himself near the main mosque of the region."

The southern suburbs of Beirut are considered the stronghold of Hezbollah, the Shiite militant party which is fighting in Syria alongside the forces of President Bashar al-Assad against Islamic fundamentalists who have threatened to target Hezbollah in his heartland. Endit
