The death toll in twin blasts in Beirut southern suburbs of Burj el-Barajneh Thursday rose to at least 16, with more than 40 injured, according to the Lebanese Red Cross.

Two explosions rocked the Burj el-Barajneh area in the southern suburbs of Beirut late Thursday afternoon, which were committed by twin suicide bombers, a security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

"A suicide bomber exploded himself near a small snack on the main street of Burj el-Barajneh, and after seven minutes another bomber exploded himself near the main mosque of the region", the source added.

Meanwhile, the LBCI TV said that a third suicide bomber was present in the region but failed to explode himself. He was killed by locals when they saw him wearing a explosive belt and shouting "Allah is Great". Endit
