Profile of new speaker of Polish parliament: Marek Kuchcinski

Xinhua, November 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Marek Kuchcinski (Law and Justice Party) was elected as the speaker of the Sejm, the Lower Chamber of the Polish Parliament.

He won with 409 votes against 42, which were cast for Kornel Morawiecki. To win the election, a candidate needs at least 230 votes in the 460-seat parliament.

After electing the speaker, the Sejm will decide on how many deputy speakers will be elected. Traditionally, each party in the parliament is represented by one deputy speaker.

The procedure for electing the deputy speakers is the same as in the case of Parliament speaker, which means a candidate needs at least 15 parliament members to support their candidature.

Kuchcinski acted as deputy speaker of Sejm for last eight years. He is a politician from Law and Justice Party, local politician in Przemysl district and a member of Parliament since 2001. Endit
