Angolan president meets with Chinese envoy on African affairs

Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos on Thursday met with Chinese envoy on African affairs Zhong Jianhua, who was in Luanda to attend the 40th anniversary of independence of the African country which falls on November 11.

During the meeting, the Chinese envoy conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Eduardo dos Santos, who offered his appreciation and in turn asked Zhong to convey his greetings to the Chinese leader.

Zhong congratulated the Angolan president on the achievements Angola had made in the 40 years since independence, and stressed that the Chinese government attached importance to the development of Sino-Angolan ties, and was ready to implement, through joint efforts with the Angolan side, agreements reached during President Eduardo dos Santos' June visit to China and to promote the strategic partnership between the two countries to new highs.

For his part, President Eduardo dos Santos commended China's contribution to the peaceful development of Angola, and stressed his country was in a new phase of development and was willing to deepen cooperation with China in all fields, particularly in the areas of investment and financing, and to create favourable conditions for the development of Chinese enterprises in Angola.

Zhong arrived in Luanda on Tuesday as the representative of the Chinese government to attend celebrations of the 40th anniversary of independence of Angola. Endit
