Chinese movie, River Road was adjudged the grand winner under the Best Asian Film category at the Colombo International Film Festival held in the capital on Wednesday.

The international film festival organized by the Film Directors' Guild of Sri Lanka and partnered by Ceylon Theatres and National Film Corporation, showcased films from a variety of countries and varied cinema disciplines.

The main goal of this event was to position Sri Lankan cinema on a global map and to introduce globally recognized art-house movies which do not come as commercial releases to local cinema audiences. The Festival also exposed local films and filmmakers to the world.

This year's festival had two competitive streams for feature films, under the categories "Asian" and "Sri Lankan." 10 critically acclaimed films produced in the Asian region in 2014 and 2015 were short listed to compete at the final round of the Asian film competition.

China's River Road which emerged the grand winner of the night is directed by Li Ruijun and portrays the journey of two little brothers from a forgotten minority tribe in northern China, seeking their homeland of water and meadow.

Through the eyes of children, this film shows the increasing awareness of identity, the importance of brotherhood and relationship with family, love and reconciliation between human beings, animals and the nature. Endit
