At least 27 pupils from a school in North Yorkshire have been sent to hospital after showing signs of sickness and feeling faint, local police said Wednesday afternoon.

North Yorkshire Police said emergency services are now in attendance at the Outwood Academy School on Clotherholme Road in Ripon.

Police were reported at around 12:30 p.m. That a number of students had collapsed at the school and a number of others had taken ill.

It said the incident happened between 11 a.m. and 11: 30 a.m.

"Approximately 27 students have been affected who have displayed signs of sickness and feeling faint. Some have been attended to by paramedics at the scene and others have been taken to hospital," the police said.

The cause of this incident is unknown at this moment, and officers, fire service are now investigating of the incident. Endit
