Slovak economy should more oriented towards Asia

Xinhua, November 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovakia should direct its business activities towards Asia, including China, in order not to be dependent solely on exports to EU markets, said a senior banker.

"It's a long-distance run. The significance of Asia, including China, keeps on growing enormously. Slovakia has to follow this trend because so far we've been highly dependent on the EU," general director of CSOB Bank Daniel Kollar said at the 9th annual Slovak Matchmaking Fair 2015 co-organised with China which took place in Bratislava from Tuesday.

According to Eximbanka general director Igor Lichnovsky, China has many specific characteristics that need to be understood.

"It's essential to respect the fact that it's an entirely different culture. You need to choose a different approach to negotiations in order for them to be successful and to establish relations with partners not only on a business but also on a human basis," emphasised Lichnovsky.

The Slovak state-run pro-export bank is ready to support entrepreneurs that have respect for the Chinese market. He sees opportunities mainly in the areas of power engineering and machinery. Endit
