16 students injured in east China stampede

Xinhua, November 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sixteen primary school students were injured in a stampede at an indoor amusement park in Nanjing City, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province on Monday, local authorities said.

All of the injured students are from Nanjing Yuhua Experimental Primary School and are in stable conditions. Two suffered serious injuries and are being treated in SICU (surgical intensive care unit) at the Nanjing Children's Hospital, according to a statement issued by the Yuhuatai District's education bureau via its official microblog account on Sina Weibo, a Chinese microblogging service.

Wang Jing, a doctor at the hospital, said the injured students suffered bruises on their heads and faces. CT scan results showed major organs were undamaged in the stampede.

The stampede occurred around 10 a.m. at a escalator in Happy World at Hongyang Plaza after a group of first and second grade students were lining up to ride the escalator during an autumn outing.

An investigation on the cause of the accident is still underway. Endi
