Three gunmen attacked a bar in Kanyosha in the south of the Burundian capital Bujumbura late Saturday killing eight persons and seriously injuring another, a local administration official told Xinhua on Sunday.

"It was around 20:00 (18:00 GMT) when gunmen in police uniforms erupted in a bar known as Au Coin des Amis, ordering the bar cashier and all the people who were taking drinks to give them all the money and other valuable objects that they had," said Jean Bosco Girukwishaka, administrator of Muha urban commune. BUCHAREST -- The death toll of the club fire here a week ago rose to 44 on Sunday, after 12 dead in the last 24 hours. NATO and Romanian military aircraft are to transport the seriously injured to receive treatment abroad.

Some 100 injured people are still being treated in Romanian hospitals, while half of them were in serious and critical condition, according to the authorities. (Romania-Fire)

QALAT, Afghanistan -- Militants loyal to the so-called Islamic State group known as Daesh have killed seven abducted people in the southern Zabul province, provincial police chief Mir Wais Noorzai said Sunday.

"The Daesh insurgents abducted seven innocent civilians from Ghazni province one month ago and beheaded them Saturday night in Arghandab district of Zabul province," Noorzai told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Abduction)

ANKARA -- Thirteen rebels of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' party (PKK) were killed in military operations by the Turkish Security Forces in southeastern Turkey on Saturday, said a Turkish military statement on Sunday.

The Turkish troops staged a military operation in the rural areas of Hakkari province on Saturday, killing 11 PKK militants, said the statement. (Turkey-PKK Militants)

BAGHDAD -- At least four people were killed and 16 others injured in a suicide bomb attack in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Sunday, a police source said.

The attack occurred around noon when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest near a security patrol at a crowded marketplace in Qiyara neighborhood, which is part of the Shiite bastion of Sadr district in eastern Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. (Iraq-Bomb) Endi
