13 PKK rebels killed in Turkey's military operations

Thirteen rebels of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' party (PKK) were killed in military operations by the Turkish Security Forces in southeastern Turkey on Saturday, said a Turkish military statement on Sunday.

The Turkish troops staged a military operation in the rural areas of Hakkari province on Saturday, killing 11 PKK militantsm said the statement.

It added that the Turkish troops killed two PKK members in another military operation in Silvan town of Sirnak province bordering neighboring Iraq at the same day.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Security Forces detained two members of the Islamic State (IS) in Kilis province coming from neighboring Syria on Saturday, said the statement.

Since the government launched major military operations against PKK militants, tensions have soared in Turkey, with PKK militants retaliating ever since a ceasefire fell through in July.

The PKK is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. Endit
