Rwanda's top seed storms into Uganda Tennis Open quarters

Rwanda's top player Desire Habyambere has stormed into the quarterfinals of the ongoing Uganda Open Tennis Championship.

   Habyambere brushed aside a fellow Rwanda player Ethine Niyiyena 6-0, 6-1 in a game played at the center court at Lugogo Club here on Wednesday.

   "I hope I get better and better as we get to the last eight," the 31-year old Habyambere told Xinhua in an interview after the match.

   Another Rwanda player Olivier Havugimana found the going tough when he lost 6-4, 6-1 to Uganda's Henry Muyanja.

   Top seed in the tournament Uganda's Duncan Mugabe qualified for the quarter final as well after beating fellow Ugandan Jonathan Ssebanja 6-1, 6-1 in a one-sided match.

   In the women's singles, Rwanda's Maureen Ingabire walked over Hellen Muzisake, while Vanesa Namisi saw off Rita Nyagenda 6-0, 6-1.

   Cathy Mwubaha was the only women's player who booked an early place in the quarters with a 6-3, 6-1 win Daphine Mukasa.

   The five-day tournament has attracted over 80 players from Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Uganda.  Endi
