Denmark down 7 places in FIFA world rankings

Xinhua, November 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Denmark has fallen seven places to 35th in the latest FIFA world rankings, data showed Thursday.

Denmark lost its chance to automatically qualify for Euro 2016 when it fell 0-1 to Portugal, and Albania eased past Armenia 3-0 in the group stage.

It now faces two crucial matches against Sweden, which is ranked 45th on the list, at the qualifying play-offs in mid-November, for one of the final four spots in the next summer tournament in France.

Though Denmark is ahead of Sweden in the rankings, Denmark coach Morten Olsen said it is not an indication that Denmark should be considered as favorite in the matches against Sweden.

"I have no idea where we are in relation to Sweden," Olsen was cited as saying by Danish news agency Ritzau. Olsen was cited as saying by Danish news agency Ritzau.

"It is not that we are suddenly favorites because we are ahead of Sweden. The ranking is not so important."

Belgium is for the first time in its history to top the FIFA rankings, followed by Germany and Argentina.  Endi
