The Macedonian government provided 42 million Macedonian denars (780, 000 U.S. dollars) for 44 projects on equal regional development, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister for economical matters Vladimir Pesevski declared on a press conference on Wednesday.

Through a set of criteria reviewed and evaluated by an expert commission, 44 projects were selected. One third of the projects are on the preparation of reports, technical and project documentation, as well as feasibility studies for which regions and municipalities provide funds and other sources of funding -- EU funds, the World Bank, municipal budgets, concessions and public private partnership.

"The government is strongly committed to fostering equal regional development and 2016 draft budget for this purpose foresees 300 million denars," Pesevski added.

"Efficient implementation of the program for equal regional development and proposed legislative changes that are already in parliamentary procedure, should ensure better functioning of the centers for support of the planning regions, their better financing and sustainability," said Pesevski.

Macedonian Minister of Local Self-Government Lirim Shabani underlined that the government allocated twice funds in a year finance projects for development of regions, villages and areas with specific development needs. Endit
