Jordan's King Abdullah II on Wednesday stressed rejection of any change to the status quo in Al Aqsa Mosque, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
At a meeting with a Palestinian delegation, King Abdullah stressed support to the steadfastness of the Palestinians in Jerusalem in face of Israeli violations and aggression against Al Aqsa Mosque.
He added that Jordan will continue to support Jerusalem and play its historic role in defending Al Aqsa Mosque.
Jordan, which signed a peace deal with Israel in 1994, oversees the Islamic and Christian holy sites in east Jerusalem, which is envisaged as the future capital of the Palestinian state.
"Jordan strongly rejects any change to the status quo in Al Aqsa Mosque and Al Haram al Sharif that extends over 144 dunums of land," said the king.
The king added that Jordan will go ahead with its project to install surveillance cameras at Al Aqsa Mosque and its yards to detect any Israeli violations and aggression.
Cameras will be installed at the mosque in six weeks, he said. Endit
