Hotline set up for ASEAN defense ministers for rapid response cooperation in emergency

Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said here Tuesday that a hotline has been set up for ASEAN defense ministers to promote rapid response cooperation in times of emergency.

Hishammuddin told a press conference after the ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) Retreat that the ASEAN defense ministers witnessed a signing ceremony for the Direct Communication Link (DCL) initiative, a hotline for ASEAN defense ministers to communicate swiftly in crisis situation.

The ASEAN defense ministers exchanged views on current regional and international security and defense matters, and expressed their shared concern on the growing threat of terrorism, cyber and maritime security, he added.

Following the meeting, the Third ADMM-Plus will be held on Wednesday, and the defense ministers of ASEAN countries, Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States will attend the event. Enditem
