China to advance reform of household registration system: Xi

Xinhua, November 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

President Xi Jinping called for the prompt execution of changes to the household registration system, according to a document issued by the Communist Party of China on Tuesday.

Citing a national plan on urbanization for the 2014-2020 period, the document said by 2020, about 45 percent of the whole registered population will be living in urban areas.

In 2013 this rate was 35.9 percent. It is calculated that more than 16 million people change their registered rural address to an urban address each year.

Xi made the remarks when addressing the Fifth Plenum of 18th CPC Central Committee last week on China's 13th five-year plan for economic and social development from 2016 to 2020. Endi
