Nearly 204,000 migrants cross through Macedonia since June

Macedonian Ministry of Interior has shown that about 203,940 migrants have passed through Macedonia since June this year, Macedonian Information Agency reported on Monday.

According to the Interior Ministry, only in the past 24 hours, the ministry has issued certificates to 3,702 asylum seekers. The majority of the migrants are from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Ongoing violence in Iraq and Syria and "worsening conditions" for Syrian refugees in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon are driving people to seek asylum in Europe, according to UNHCR spokeswoman Melissa Fleming.

A big number of migrants and refugees crossing from Macedonia en route to Serbia and then continued their journey to Hungary and Europe's borderless Schengen zone. Endit
