14 Vietnamese detained for organizing illegal gambling

Xinhua, November 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fourteen people from Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City have been detained for organizing large-scale illegal gambling activities, the municipal police said Monday.

The police have also confiscated over three billion Vietnamese dong (133,000 U.S. dollars) and 2.5 taels of gold.

The illegal gambling ring, led by a 62-year-old man named Tran Tuc, started operation in April 2014. The illegal gambling is based on the results of legal lottery.

Also on Monday, the municipal police said they have concluded investigation into a high-class prostitution ring detected in April, and proposed prosecution of five local prostitution intermediaries.

The ring provided prostitutes, mainly models, actresses and singers, to sex buyers at a price of 500-1,000 U.S. dollars. Acting as a pimp, Le Bao Loc, a 40-year-old stage director from southern Hau Giang province, received 200 U.S. dollars for each deal. Enditem
