Nigeria beats Brazil to reach semifinals of FIFA U17 World Cup

Xinhua, November 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five minutes of inspiration was all that Nigeria needed to defeat Brazil by 3-0 on Sunday and reach the semifinals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup being held in Chile.

The match between Nigeria and Brazil was played on Sunday at Sausalito Stadium in Vina del Mar. After the first 15 minutes, Nigeria did not imagine they would reach half time with a three-goal advantage.

Brazil had a good beginning, dominating possession and playing intelligently. However, four clear opportunities went begging, giving the chance for Nigerian forward Akpan Udoh to lead the charge.

Nigeria surged toward the Brazilian half, with Victor Osimhen slotting home in the 29th minute. Brazil was on the back foot, with Kingsley Michael and Udochukwu Anumudo getting on the score sheet in the 30th and 35th minutes.

Brazil tried to even the score until the end but could do nothing to stop Nigeria to move ahead and face either Mexico or Ecuador in the semifinals on November 5. Endi
