Corinthians extend Brazil Serie A lead

Xinhua, November 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Corinthians all but secured a sixth Brazilian Serie A title with a 3-0 victory over second-placed Atletico Mineiro on Sunday.

Malcolm, Vagner Love and Lucca all struck second half goals to break the hosts' early resistance at the Independencia stadium in Belo Horizonte.

The Sao Paulo-based outfit are now nine points clear of Atletico in the standings and need just four points from their remaining five matches to win their third league title in 10 years.

Meanwhile, Santos moved back into the top four by clinching a 2-1 home victory over Palmeiras.

Brazil international striker Ricardo Oliveira and teenage midfielder Thiago Maia were on target for the hosts before Dudu drew Palmeiras closer in the 75th minute.

And in Porto Alegre, Gremio ended Flamengo's remote hopes of a top-four berth with a 2-0 victory over the Rio de Janeiro outfit. Endi
