Chinese jeweler designers won two of the five prizes at the International Diamond Jewelry Competition in Belgium on Thursday.

Liang Shu came second and Feng Xiaopeng fourth out of the five finalists at the 17th edition of the HRD Awards, which recognize the best talent in contemporary diamond jewelry design. They each received a 2,500-U.S.-dollar prize.

The overall prize went to a Japanese designer, Tomoko Kodera, who won 10,000 U.S. dollars.

According to organizers, there were a record 1,531 entries for this year's awards. A jury of industry experts short listed 29 designers who put their design into real production.

Among those presenting the awards was Richard Shen, chief executive of luxury brand Tesiro, who was recently awarded Belgium's highest honor, the Officer in the Order of Leopold, for his services in promoting the Belgian diamond industry in China.

In a speech at the awards, Shen said his company would "continue to promote Belgian diamond cutting culture and cooperation between China and Belgium." Endit
