S.Korea's industrial output rises 2.4 percent in September

Xinhua, October 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Industrial output in South Korea rose 2.4 percent in September from a month earlier, keeping a upward trend for four straight months, a government report showed Friday.

It was up from a 0.3 percent growth in August and marked the fastest monthly increase in four and a half years, according to Statistics Korea.

During the July-September period, the production in all industries expanded 1.9 percent from the previous three-month period.

The September growth was led by strong demand in auto and chip industries, resulting in brisk activity among manufacturers.

Production in the mining and manufacturing sector increased 1.9 percent in September from a month earlier.

Semiconductor production surged 17.2 percent thanks to demand for chips used for smartphones, including the newly launched Galaxy Note5, and auto production advanced 5 percent on the back of a cut in consumption tax. Enditem
