Tokyo shares open lower ahead of BOJ decision

Tokyo shares opened slightly lower on Friday as market players were in a wait-and-see mood before the Bank of Japan's monetary policy decision due later in the day.

At 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 31.31 points, or 0.17 percent, from Thursday to 18,904.40.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.93 point, or 0.06 percent, at 1,546.18.

Iron and steel, glass and ceramics and other products comprise the morning's notable decliners. Endit
