Tokyo stocks open higher on weaker yen, U.S. gains

Tokyo shares opened higher on Thursday on gains in the U.S. stocks market, as well as on a softened yen.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 131.84 points, or 0.70 percent, to 19,034.86.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 6.37 points, or 0.41 percent, to 1,553.56. Enditem
