Belarus foreign exchange earnings shrink by a quarter

Xinhua, October 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Belarus' foreign exchange earnings fell by 24.2 percent in January-September 2015, the central bank said on Monday.

In the first nine months of 2015, foreign exchange earnings of Belarus stood at 24.9 billion U.S. dollars, down by 24.2 percent compared with the same period of 2014, it said.

In September alone, foreign exchange earnings was 2.48 billion dollars, a decrease of 29.9 percent compared with the corresponding period in 2014, it added.

It was also the lowest since February, which recorded earnings of 2.3 billion dollars.

The decline in foreign exchange earnings was mainly due to the fall in exports of goods and services, the bank said.

Experts say a significant reduction in foreign exchange earnings of Belarus was connected with the decline of demand in Russia for products manufactured in Belarus.

In January-September, foreign revenues from Russia to Belarus fell to 9.47 billion dollars, a decrease of more than 4 billion dollars compared with the same period of last year. Endit
