Albanian police seizes large amount of narcotics

The Albanian anti-narcotic police in the port of Durres discovered on Monday one ton of narcotic substance destined to Italy and arrested three people for involvement in the international traffic of narcotics.

Elona Muca, head of communication at the Police of Durres, declared that the large amount of narcotics, namely marijuana, was being transported to Italy through a lorry transporting timber.

During the operation named "Poker," the police arrested the owner of the lorry and two other suspects.

Police said that the narcotic substance found was hidden in the wood packages inside the vehicle and that investigation is under way to catch other people involved in the illegal activity.

The Albanian state police have organized in the past two years many operations against cultivation of narcotics. In September 2015 Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the police has destroyed up to 99.2 percent of the quantity cultivated in the territory and called this a history of success. Enditem
