Albania sets up funds to reward tax fraud whistleblowers

Albanian government is setting up a fund of around 72,000 euros (80,000 U.S. dollars) to reward citizens who report on fiscal evasion as part of the campaign against the informal cash economy, local media reported on Friday.

As part of the new measures to fight fraud, taxation officials will ask customers to identify businesses that do not give receipts.

These initiatives are a continuance of the "war against informality" campaign launched by Albanian Premier Edi Rama since September 2013. Rama vowed that the government would take whatever steps needed to end informality and fiscal evasion in Albania.

The campaign against fraud and fiscal evasion has influenced mainly the small businesses that have become subject to inspections, fines, confiscations of goods and even arrests. Endit
