Low-cost airline Norwegian orders 19 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners

Xinhua, October 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle said Thursday it had signed an agreement to add 19 new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its current fleet of eight 787-8 Dreamliners.

The order would help more than quadruple its current long-haul fleet to 38 aircraft within the next five years, the company said.

The agreement is the largest single order of 787-9 Dreamliners in Europe and includes purchase options for an additional ten aircraft of the same type, the airline said, without disclosing the value of the deal.

The first deliveries from the new order will commence in 2017.

"This order of 19 new Dreamliners is a major milestone and enables Norwegian to offer a wide range of new routes to travellers worldwide," Norwegian CEO Bjorn Kjos said.

Norwegian on Thursday also reported its third quarter results for 2015 with a pre-tax result of 1.1 billion kroner (132 million U.S. dollars), a strong improvement from 505 million kroner in the same quarter last year.

Norwegian is the second largest airline in Scandinavia and the third largest low-cost carrier in Europe. Norwegian was founded in 1993 and its headquarter is in Fornebu, Norway. Endit
