Visitors to Zhangjiajie, the central Chinese city known for its pillar-like mountains, will soon be able to marvel at a man-made attraction: the world's largest transparent-domed bar.
Cloud Top Bar will cover 21,000 square meters in the Hunan Province city's downtown and be able to accommodate 3,800 people, according to an agreement signed by the project's investor and the Zhangjiajie government on Wednesday.
Hunan Datong Investment Co. Ltd. will invest 528 million yuan (83 million U.S. dollars) to develop Cloud Top Bar and a strip of other bars around it.
The centerpiece of the strip will look like a flying saucer from the outside and it will have a transparent dome 44 meters in diameter, said company chairman Qian Yaolong.
Scheduled to open in August 2016, it will give drinkers a glimpse of the future through lighting effects, holographic projection facilities and robot waiters, but it will also stage traditional ethnic performances, according to Qian.
Gong Minghan, deputy mayor of Zhangjiajie, said Cloud Top Bar would help build the city into an international-class travel destination.
The mountains in UNESCO world heritage site Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a short drive from the city center, were said to have influenced the scenery in the hit sci-fi movie "Avatar." Endi
