Xinhua, September 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese President Xi Jinping's policy announcements and proposals at the United Nations Summit series were acclaimed by the international community as reflecting China's commitment to maintaining world peace and supporting common development.

On Monday, Xi made a speech at the UN headquarters titled "build a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation, create a community of common destiny for mankind", in which he renewed China's "commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN charter", reaffirming that China, as always, will be a peaceful world constructor and adhere to the path of peaceful development.

Xi called on the world community to jointly promote peace and development and address major challenges to build a better world.

International relations professor Toit at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa, spoke highly of Xi's initiative of creating a "community of common destiny for mankind", saying it has delivered the wishes of most countries, especially those of developing ones, and represented the developing trend of a new era.

Former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin indicated that Xi's speech illustrated China as a peace-loving country and that China attached great importance to the role of the United Nations in safeguarding world peace.

Severino Cabral, director of the Brazilian Institute for China and Asia-Pacific Studies, said Xi's speech showed that China has become an important force in promoting global development and safeguarding peace and stability of the world.

China's initiatives such as the Belt and Road (B&R) and the establishment of the New Development Bank of the emerging-market bloc of BRICS proved that creating "a community of common destiny for mankind" is far from just being a slogan, but embodies China's responsibility of promoting equitable, open and all-round development, he added.

Vice President of Uruguay Raul Sendic strongly favored the idea of creating "a community of common destiny for mankind", and said that in the age of globalization, countries should equally participate in the discussion on global development issues.

Boris Volkhonsky, director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies on Asian Countries, said that Xi's announcement that China will enhance participation in UN peacekeeping operations will contribute to maintaining social order and national reconstruction for conflict zones, and play a constructive role in promoting peaceful settlement of international hot issues.

Xi's speech pointed out a new direction of state-to-state relations, in which countries should attach more importance to the principle of equality and achieve mutual benefits through communication and cooperation.

President of South Africa Jacob Zuma said that during the debate China has not only provided assistance to the UN, but also announced special assistance to Africa, for which he expressed his gratitude to China's support.

President of Finland Sauli Niinisto told the media that compared to other speeches, he thought Xi's speech was the most genuine one, which provided China's support in solving crisis, stopping conflicts and achieving ceasefire.

On Sept. 26, Xi delivered a speech at the UN Development Summit on cooperation and mutual benefit with a core idea of equal, opening, all-round and innovative development.

Ahmed Wali, chairman of the Egypt-China Friendship Association, commented that idea is in accordance with China's principle of foreign policy as peaceful co-existence for mutual benefits, which provides a balanced and sustainable path for the world, and a promising one for Africa.

China has been devoting itself to the aids for developing countries, and has helped Africa with many infrastructure projects. Many developing countries have, with China's help, realized suitable and smooth economic growth, he added.

Jose Manriquez, a professor with Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, said China's development fuels the world's economy, and Latin America, including Brazil, Argentina and Chile, has benefited from it.

Raffarin said the establishment of funds for South-South Cooperation revealed China's resolution to directly fight against poverty, which is welcomed by the UN members.

Marisela Connelly, researcher of the Mexican Center of Asia and Africa Studies, said China has been making efforts to help African countries get rid of colonialism and boost local economy, proving its role as a reliable friend.

Li Mingjiang, associate professor with the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies under Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, said the contributions China has made to helping developing countries cope with major challenges have demonstrated its sense of responsibility.

Xi elaborated on China's stand of gender equality on Sept. 27, when he addressed the opening ceremony of the Women's Summit, vowing to boost women's cause and build a harmonious world.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his thanks to China's proposal of the summit, which will become a milestone for the global women's cause.

President Sauli Niinisto of Finland praised China's role in boosting global gender equality, and Haji Hassanal, Sultan of Brunei, also hailed China's leadership in protecting women's rights.

Moreover, foreign leaders like Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Argentine President Cristina Fernandez and Benin's President Thomas Boni Yayi agreed with Xi and thanked China for its proposals at the summit of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN. Endi
