Afghan gov't beefs up security ahead of Eid al-Adha

The government of Afghanistan has beefed up security ahead of Eid al-Adha, the Muslims' largest annual religious festival which falls on Thursday.

Police personnel have been deployed in all sensitive areas of Kabul and strictly check all vehicles entering the capital city.

In a statement released here Wednesday, the Interior Ministry asked people avoid firing shots into the air on Eid al-Adha days, warning that anyone who violates the law would be punished.

The ministry instructed shopkeepers not to sell crackers and toy guns during the three-day festival, which is a public holiday.

Security have also been tightened in other cities of Afghanistan ahead of Eid al-Adha celebration. Endi
