Novo Nordisk to build manufacturing plant in Iran

Xinhua, September 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has signed an agreement with the Iranian authorities on the construction of a manufacturing facility for prefilled devices in the country, the company announced Tuesday.

The project is expected to last five years and will cost approximately 70 million euros (78 million U.S. dollars), Novo Nordisk said in a statement.

"This investment will ensure availability of our modern insulins and will bring us a step closer to the people who rely on our products," said Ole Moelskov Bech, corporate vice president of Novo Nordisk Business Area Near East.

The construction of the new plant is estimated to create 160 new jobs in Iran, where Novo Nordisk already employs around 130 people.

Headquartered in Denmark, Novo Nordisk is a healthcare company boasting more than 90 years of innovation in diabetes care. It employs some 39,700 employees in 75 countries and regions, and markets its products in more than 180 countries and regions. Endit
