EU leaders to attend high-level meetings in New York

The European Commission here on Monday announced that Commission First Vice President Frans Timmermans would speak on behalf of the EU on Sept. 27 at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in New York on the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

According to a Commission press release, this year marks the opening of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly.

Starting on Sept. 25, many world leaders are expected to address the three-day UN Sustainable Development Summit, as well as take part in the general debate of the UN General Assembly, which is slated for Sept. 28 to Oct. 6. EU leaders will have a strong presence at events throughout the week.

According to the EU side, its priorities for the general assembly focus on issues under the headings of a safer world, the common future, and effective multilateralism. Endit
