Myanmar's opposition party, the National League for Democracy (NLD) began it radio and TV electoral campaigning on Monday night for the upcoming general election on Nov. 8.

Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of NLD, addressed the nation the party's policy, political stance and objectives and called on the country's people in her canvass speech to decisively vote for the party in the November election to enable it to take the responsibility of a government. BAGHDAD -- Islamic State (IS) militants killed an Iraqi cameraman in Mosul, the capital city of Iraq's northern province of Nineveh, a provincial police source said on Monday.

Qahttan Salaman, who worked for a local television station, was seized on Friday by IS militants at his house in east part of the city, some 400 km north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. (Iraq-IS-Cameraman)

LAGOS -- Death toll from multiple bombings that hit Maiduguri in northeast Nigeria's restive Borno state capital has exceeded 50, local reporters told Xinhua.

Most of the journalists who spoke with Xinhua on phone said the death toll might be higher as some other victims were taken to the Umaru Shehu hospital, where the casualty figures are presently not clear. (Nigeria-Bombings-Attacks)

KABUL -- The Afghan security forces have killed 23 Taliban militants and liberated several villages from the hardliner insurgents, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

According to the ministry, the operations were launched in the mountainous Kot district, during which 17 more militants sustained injuries and another one was arrested. (Afghanistan-Taliban-Conflicts)

SINGAPORE -- A 28-year-old Filipino man was sentenced to four months in jail for insulting Singaporeans online and lying to the police, local media reported on Monday.

Ello Ed Mundsel Bello was convicted of three charges, according to Channel NewsAsia. The charges include one count under the Sedition Act for promoting feelings of ill-will and hostility, and two counts of providing false information to police. (Singapore-Filipino-Sentence) Endi
