EIB confirms support for Dutch water company Vitens

Xinhua, September 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Investment Bank (EIB) Monday officially confirmed it will support Dutch water company Vitens through a 150 million euros (168.6 million U.S. dollars) long-term loan.

The five-year loan is meant to support the company's five-year investment program, including projects to modernize Vitens' water purification plants and production locations.

Vitens' investment program will also focus on distribution networks, sensors and support infrastructure such as security and office facilities.

EIB vice president Pim van Ballekom said: "A network such as Vitens' requires constant upgrading to maintain its present high quality standards, and the EIB is pleased to be able to play its part."

"The EIB investment will enable us to make the Dutch water network future-proof and safeguard a sustainable water infrastructure in the future," said Wolter Odding, member of the Vitens board.

Vitens operates in five Dutch provinces and supplies drinking water to around 5.5 million consumers and business customers. It supplies 350 million cubic meters of water every year. Endit
