About 53 militants have been killed as Afghan army waged operations in 15 out of the country's 34 provinces, the country's defense ministry said on Sunday.

"The Afghan National Army carried out military and cleanup operations, killing 53 terrorists, wounding 43 and detaining 11 other suspected insurgents over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The ANA also found and seized weapons during those operations, the statement noted.

"A total of seven ANA personnel were martyred as a result of enemy's heavy weapons firing and roadside planted mine explosions within the same period," the statement confirmed.

The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as they assumed the full security charges from NATO-led troops since Jan. 1.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments. Endi
