Afghan army defuses 52 improvised bombs in southern provinces

The Afghan army has found and defused 52 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in two restive southern provinces, said the country's Defense Ministry on Sunday.

"Engineering teams of Afghan National Army's Corp 205 Attal during military and cleanup operations discovered and defused 52 IEDs and landmines in southern Kandahar and neighboring Zabul province over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The Taliban militant group has largely been using the home-made IEDs to target the security forces.
