Jordan says Israeli escalation in Al Aqsa Mosque violates peace treaty

Xinhua, September 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said Thursday the Israeli escalation in Jerusalem's Al Aqsa Mosque violated the peace deal between the two sides, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Jordan is closely following up on developments and condemns Israeli escalation in al Aqsa Mosque, where Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians worshippers over the past few days after storming its yards.

He added that Israel's latest violations represent a disappointment and in violation of Israel's commitments and pledges.

The Israeli aggression is also in violation of 1994 Wadi Araba peace treaty signed between Jordan and Israel in 1994, said Ensour.

Israel has no right to alter the identity of Jerusalem. Israel's practices are provocative and I luring to all Muslims, he said.

He added that the Israeli government should immediately stop these violations.

Jordan, which oversees holy Islamic and Christian sites in East Jerusalem, was the second Arab state to sign peace deal with Israel following Egypt. Endit
