Two Pakistani civilians die in Indian firing: Islamabad

Xinhua, September 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Pakistan army said late Thursday that Indian firing has killed two civilians in a latest cross- border shelling.

A military statement said a 13-year-old girl Laiba and 55-year- old Munishi Ahmad were killed due to "Indian unprovoked firing" in Nakial sector along the Line of Control (LoC) that divides the two countries in the disputed Kashmir region.

Pakistan and India declared cease-fire along the LoC in 2003. However, border troops occasionally trade fire. Both accuse each other of the cease-fire violations. "Indian troops also resorted to unprovoked firing in Kotli sector," the statement said. Kotli is a main town in Pakistani- administered Kashmir. "Pakistani troops responding befittingly to Indian unprovoked firing and exchange of firing continues at Nakial and Kotli," the statement from the Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations said.

It is the second incident of casualties on the Pakistani side of the LoC in three days.

Pakistan said Tuesday that Indian firing killed a soldier in Rawalakot.

The latest cross-border shelling took place just days after Pakistani and Indian border officials agreed to revive a 2003 cease-fire. Endi
