Brunei public urged to avoid open burning

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Brunei government Tuesday urged the public to stop open burning or other activities that could cause bush and forest fires due to the haze that is currently affecting the country.

The government said the satellite image from the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) Tuesday detected 518 hotspots in the southern part of Borneo.

The Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) readings as of four in the afternoon was overall moderate except in Temburong District where the reading was good.

The public is urged to report any incidence of bush and forest fires to the Fire and Rescue Department.

Haze has been affecting several countries in Southeast Asia, including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, which is caused by forest fires. Endi
