Overseas votes add little effect on Singapore's polling results

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Four days after the polling day, when the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won with a landslide victory, the counting of overseas votes has concluded, with little change to the final result of the general election.

According to the press release by the Elections Department (ELD) on Tuesday, there were 4,868 registered overseas electors, out of which 3,415 turned up at the 10 designated overseas polling stations to cast their vote.

This has pushed up the total votes to 2,307,746, which accounts for 93.70 percent of the 2,462,926 registered electors, ELD said.

With the overseas votes, the Workers' Party (WP) saw a 0.01 percentage point increase for its vote share for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency against the PAP, which WP won with 50. 95 percent of the votes last Saturday. However, in Punggol East Single Member Constituency, PAP saw a 0.01 percentage point increase against the WP.

PAP won 83 of the 89 parliamentary seats in general election, while WP retained six seats, the Elections Department (ELD) announced on Saturday. Endi
