Wood exports help narrowing trade deficit between Vietnam, China: association

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Despite Vietnam running a trade deficit with China for almost all goods, it has witnessed a trade surplus of over 600 million U.S. dollars with China from exporting wood products each year, Vietnam's Timber and Forest Production Association (Vietforest) said on Tuesday.

For the first half of 2015, Vietnam earned over 425 million U.S. dollars from exporting wood products to Chinese market. Exports of wood and its products ranked second among all Vietnam's export items to China during the period after cassava.

Woodchips accounted for around 60 percent of the wood products exported to China, Vietnam News Agency quoted the association as saying at a meeting to review situation and trends of trading wood products between Vietnam and China.

Earlier in 2014, Vietnam exported some 940 million U.S. dollars worth of wood and its products to China. Endi
