Wang Xuefeng, China's new ambassador to Samoa on Tuesday presented his letter of credence to Samoan Head of State Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, vowing to promote friendship and further ties.

Conveying the kind regards and good wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and people to Samoan Head of State Efi, the Samoan government and people, Wang said that as one of the earliest Pacific island countries to establish diplomatic ties with China, Samoa is China's good friend and partner in the Pacific islands region.

The year 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Samoa.

Over the 40 years, Wang said, as China and Samoa have been enjoying frequent exchanges at all levels, political mutual trust, win-win economic cooperation and mutual support on multilateral affairs, ties between the two countries have seen development by leaps and bounds.

Last year, China and eight Pacific island countries, including Samoa, agreed to establish a strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development.

Attaching great importance to Sino-Samoan relations, the Chinese government is willing to make concerted efforts with the Samoan side to enhance friendly exchanges and mutually-beneficial cooperation in all fields, to promote the ties to a new stage, and to bring more benefits to the two countries and peoples, the Chinese ambassador said, assuring to the Samoan head of state that he will spare no effort to promote the friendship between the two peoples and further the bilateral relations.

Asking Wang to convey his best wishes to President Xi, the Chinese government and people, Efi, who spoke positively of the bilateral relations, said he welcomes Wang to his new post in Samoa.

China established diplomatic relations with Samoa on Nov. 6, 1975. Endi
