Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday hoped for fast progress on key bilateral initiatives between New Delhi and Colombo during his meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe here, said officials.
Modi expressed his wish that India-Sri Lankan "projects will gather speed now," while stressing that peace and stability in the region is "key to our success" and "prosperity."
"We had a long discussion on different areas concerning our two countries," the prime minister said in a media statement after his talks with Wickremesinghe, who is on his first visit to India since he became prime minister last month.
"This is a relationship that touches the hearts of ordinary Indians and Sri Lankans," Modi said.
Modi visited Sri Lanka early this year during which he signed a series of agreements with Sri Lankan leaders ranging from defense and security cooperation to economic and trade ties between the two neighbors. Endi
