Denmark's consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.5 percent in August from a year ago, data from the country's national statistical agency showed Thursday.
The underlying inflation, which removes the effects of volatile price movements, rose 1.3 percent in August year-on-year and was at the highest level since December 2012, said Danmarks Statistik.
However, the consumer prices decreased 0.3 percent in August compared to July, pulled down by cheaper gasoline, electricity and package tours, according to the agency.
In the past year, the category of goods and services saw the biggest rise of 3.1 percent, mainly due to higher prices of bank charges.
The education index also registered an increase of 3 percent as it becomes dearer to go to private school, but communication had the sharpest price drop of 4.7 percent, which was mainly owing to lower prices of telecommunication services.
Earlier this year, economists here were worried that Denmark might slip into a recession when the country experienced the first deflation since 1954 as consumer prices fell 0.1 percent year-on-year in January. The drop proved short-lived as CPI rose slightly in February. Endit
