Ukraine suspends passenger car production

Xinhua, September 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ukraine has suspended its passenger car production amid the slowing demand since last month, the country's automaking guild said Wednesday.

"In August, passenger cars were not produced in Ukraine," said Ukravtoprom Analysis Group in a report.

Ukraine's automakers are suffering major losses as demand for new vehicles has fallen sharply due to the financial crisis that gripped the country a year and a half ago.

According to the report, From January to August, Ukraine's total auto production plunged 83 percent year on year to 4,218 units. During the same period, Ukrainian carmakers produced only 2,914 passenger vehicles, in comparison with 5,332 units in the same period a year ago.

A total of 3,464 motor vehicles were sold in the country last month, down 46 percent year on year. Of the overall sales, Ukrainian-manufactured vehicles made up less than 10 percent. Endit
