Kenya's Yego seeks early holiday after Brussels Diamond League

Xinhua, September 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

It has become a custom for Kenya's javelin sensation and world champion Julius Yego to set the pace for his rivals with world lead throws this season.

Well ahead of the Diamond League final show in Brussels on Friday, Yego was categorical that he will not be the rabbit, but will sit back and wait for his rivals to show the lead before he may respond.

"Don't expect a world record or another world lead performance from me in Brussels Diamond League," Yego said on Wednesday in Nairobi."I am tired and worn out from the performance in Beijing and the previous events in the Diamond League."

Yego said he is in no mood to challenge for the Diamond League title in the season-closing meeting in Brussels after his world championship win in Beijing that saw him exalted to new status, with corporates back in Nairobi jostling for his signature to market their products.

Yego is fourth in the Diamond League race behind former world champion Vitezslav Vesely, Finland's Tero Pitkamaki and reigning Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago.

"I said it before the season started that Beijing World Championships was the most important competition for me in 2015. I have just done that, and now what remains is to honour my contractual obligation and put in a final show in Brussels and head for my holiday," said Yego.

Yego's 92.72m throw in Beijing made him the first African man to win javelin title, an improvement from the 91:39 throw he set at the Birmingham Diamond League in June. Endit
